- An opening bid of one in a minor suit is made with
- two types of hands.

- UNBALANCED HANDS: Require a minor suit with 5 or
- more cards, OPC of at least 14, and 2 or more QT.
- With more than 2 QT, the point count can be lowered
- to 13 or even 12 with 3 QT. 4 4 4 1 splits are
- unbalanced and fall in this catagory (min. HCPC 13).
- With two 5 card suits, diamonds is usually bid first.
- With two 4 card suits, I tend to bid clubs first.

- BALANCED HANDS: Require a HCPC of 15 to 20. The
- minor suit should have at least 3 cards and a stopper.
- Bid the longer, lower ranking, minor suit first.

- HCPC 15-20, balanced hand, open 1 minor suit
- HCPC 21-22, balanced hand, open 2NT
- HCPC 23 or greater, balanced hand, open 2C
